Help – Old School Museum

We would be very interested to hear from anyone who remembers the old School Museum which was started by Reverend Eves in 1887 and closed, we believe, some time in the 1960’s.

Does anyone know when it closed? What happened to the artefacts? Does anyone remember what was in the Museum?

We know the Museum existed from the old School records, particularly the Guisborian, and we thought until recently that the contents had been lost. However, a recent discovery has turned out to be some of the items from the Museum – some we can identify and some we can’t!

I hope you may be able to help.

With kind regards

Sally Smith

Entertainer, Troubadour and Rascal

Sad news of Rod Mackenzie GGS 63-69, of Mount Washington Valley, New Hampshire, who died recently in hospital in Florida. From this obituary in the Conway Daily Sun, and the Jackson Flicks Facebook page, you can see he touched many musically after he left these shores with the “British invasion”.

(Also available on YouTube is the family tribute to Rod. Thanks to Mark Baty for posting the sad news and Allan Muir for providing the links on GGS72PPC74 Facebook page. Several who remember him posting their recollections on there. PS The obit says he died Christmas Eve, but the Jackson Flicks news items were posted 1st Dec.)

450 Years On-Line

Take a look at the college on-line archives which have just gone live this week.

As part of the 450th anniversary events, college heritage officer Marie Prior took on the task to archive and catalogue Prior Pursglove College artefacts and documents going back through the times of the Guisborough Grammar School, and the Alms Houses, right back in fact to the original priory hospital founded by Robert Pursglove in 1561.

As well as the on-line content, which is still a work in progress, there is a comprehensive catalogue of the physical artefacts and hard-copy documents. Marie and the college are to be congratulated on a splendid job. Of course they remain keen to hear from anyone with new content, new knowledge of the existing content or simply with interest in using or supporting the ongoing archive.

Explore starting from the archive home page, or maybe start right at the beginning with the original foundation charter and a transcript of the full text or perhaps the complete searchable catalogue. For ongoing news of latest additions keep an eye on the archive news blog.
